This game was originally developed as a solo game jam project—my first—for Eco Jam #1. It was fortunate that the Earth Day theme happened to align with an idea that had been bouncing around my mind at the time. Although the first version turned in at the jam was voted somewhere in the middle of the pack, I realized that I'd scoped too big for a solo one week project.
Following the jam, I continued development off and on, putting in about a couple months' worth of additional work. I learned so much from it, particularly around the application of ideas I'd know about but not really done on my own: coroutines, the singleton pattern, spawner variationss, both random and incremental color changes in materials, and 3D movement and animation to name a few. There were some interesting environmental storytelling problems to solve as well, and quite a lot of refactoring practice.
I officially released v1.0 on Itch for Earth Day 2023, but getting it listed on Steam took a little longer.
